GIM...Islands In The Stream ?
:coolbeer:
I spent about 4 hours yesterday cruising coin collector forums and guys....they ain't got a clue. The majority sentiment seems to be..... Silver & Gold ? Worthless barbaric relic...there is enough silver and gold to last 1000 years...photographic demand is dropping...expect less and less demand of both silver and gold ...only fools and morons would buy silver or gold bullion. Now the smart money...invest in Proof Gold Eagles and Morgans. Graded individual coins at $10K each are the only way to go. TSHTF is never going to happen...The Empire is booming BTW. I suspect our little PM/Survival group here at GIM has moved so far out of the box we have become an island. So be it...we like it extreme... :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: |

It is happening faster and faster but some how they STILL don't notice how fast their FRNs are losing purchasing power. They are OBLIVIOUS of the HUGE HOLE in the side of the sinking ship.:captain: To them it is UNTHINKABLE -- um -- or is that UNSINKABLE?? What ever, they just can't even IMAGIN that all their FRNs and all the stuff valued in FRNS that is ALL or mostly bought on CREDIT could be GONE!:stupid: What amases me most is how they cling to and defend the DELUSION that their FRNs ( IOUs) are MONEY! :fight: To them MONEY is a generic term that coveres any thing that gets them what they want, cupons from the paper and FRNs are just diferent kinds of MONEY. The fact that THEY are OK with THAT realy DOES drive me CRAZY :confused_m: :eek_ma: :confused_ma: -- so perhaps THEY been RIGHT all this time?? NOPE I don't THINK SO!!!:albertein the DUCK |

:cool2: I hear ya Duck...
There is a difference between being actually crazy and crazy like a fox. When TSHTF do you think the poor slob who bought a rare $10K Morgan Proof Dollar is going to trade it for 10,000 pounds of beans ? I think not....:bear_cry: :bear_cry: :bear_cry: Hey Lancers...If she's guarding the sheep...where to I sign up for extra guard duty ? Us sheepdogs need to travel in groups of two for mutual protection. Oh yeah...the flowers...I almost forgot. :haha: :haha: :haha: |
Re: GIM...Islands In The Stream ?
I love numismatic coins, but the prices on so much of it is outrageous. A lot of people have made good money at it over the years, but I can't see how those prices will ever hold when times get to be as bad as what many of us think they will be.
RR is right- get hold of lots of beans, and other dried food as well. Food will always have value, no matter what happens. Personally I think a good food supply is #1. The lowly bean may yet become the biggest star of all. Duck, you ain't too crazy, or you wouldn't be here. And besides, everybody loves ya anyway! I'm one of those guys that actually did not notice the flowers. |
Re: GIM...Islands In The Stream ?
Your pic is a great definition of the word "fine". Thanks.

Re: GIM...Islands In The Stream ?
A lot of the smart money bought Beanie Babies. a few years back. And some of them even knew when to get out and take their profits with them. There is money to be made in numismatics and even the stock market still. Time will tell though if that money will still have its value in the years to come.

Re: GIM...Islands In The Stream ?
:bear_happy: As a semi coin collector I have to be harsh on the numismatic crowd because prices have gone totally insane.
With the advent of coin grading the bigger fool theory went into high gear and has yet to slow down. The dealer abuse of the grading system defies description. Individual abuse is not all that rare either. A relative of mine is a deep pockets collector from hell. He would think nothing of dropping a bundle on a MS-61 coin. First he cracks the coin out of the certified holder and starts sending it back for further evaluation every month or so...maybe three different grading services are used. Guess what ? Every time it comes back it moves up a grade. Saw him do this with a MS-61 Morgan Dollar until nine months later it was certified MS-69....of course the value went ballistic when it passed MS-67. It's a racket I refuse to participate in. I bought an ungraded business strike grade XF 1885 S Morgan off ebay a few years ago for $50.00.In my opinion it was graded correctly...very nice tone and borderline BAU....but what do I know. Sent the Morgan to my relative and had him use his account to get it graded....it jumped from XF to MS-63 right out of the gate...Hmmm...that's a pretty good little racket for fleecing the sheep. There is no need for further detail...basically the grading services all pretty much bump every coin to higher grades every time it is submitted...multiple submissions = higher MS grading. A little quality time in the old ultrasonic cleaner seems to bump any coin up two grades as a matter of course. I ignore MS grading for the above reasons. I quit playing the bigger fool a long time ago. Big dealers are the worst to abuse this scam...and it works flawlessly. Wanna buy a certified MS-68 1885 S Morgan ? I got a beaut...thanks to my relative. It only took 8 submissions to get it.  |
Re: GIM...Islands In The Stream ?
QWAK,I have an on going almost hostile on line conversation going on ,on a yahoo board with a SHEEP/RAM who will defend the FRN untill it IMPLODES. It is sort of both FUN and FRUSTRATING to offer LOGIC and reasnoble thinking and get back such OBTUSE and ABSURED answers!
Just posted this a wile ago:--- You are confused by TERMS and DEFINITIONS that have been delibritly debased and misused with the intent of removing REAL MONEY out of the hands of the people who actualy create WELTH. Yes FRNs are the current most popular FLAVOR but GOLD WAS how the US DOLLAR became the most popular and it has been removed from the equasion so the JUSTIFICATION for the popularity is also GONE! To continue to believe that it is and will continue to be the most popular flavor would be like saying a cup of HOT COCOA taists the SAME even with the COCOA removed, when OBVIOUSLY it is just HOT WATER! With out the GOLD BACKING FRNs are just pieces of PAPER,IOUs for another piece of paper just like them! FIAT CURRENCY is a SCAM and a HOAX nothing more but people are slow to realise they have been FOOLED and reluctent (especialy to them selves), to admit they have been BAMBOZELED by fast talkers using conveluted terms who have made promises they can not posably HONOR! A promis made knowing it can't posably come TRUE is a LIE and persons who believe in such things are FOOLS! GOLD has been the ONLY REAL MONEY for many thousands of years because it can NOT be MAGICLY CREATED,it can NOT be COUNTERFITED and it STANDS UP to virtualy all forms of CORRUPTION with out being CORUPTED,it remains the PURIST form of MONEY by which all other forms are judged agenst! The central banks have spent a lot of time and effort TRYING to replace GOLD as MONEY, creating many substitutes and alternitives and REEDUCATING people NOT to believe what THEY KNOW is TRUE! This gives the BANKERS an extream UNFAIR ADVANTGE which they have EXPLOITED to such an extent that it is beyond ABSURED! IF you wish to continue to believe that FRNs and all other forms of FIAT are MONEY that is up to YOU, but at some point your DELUSION will fade away and the diference between HOT COCOA and HOT WATER will be OBVIOUS and UNDENIABLE, as you find your self SWIMING in MORE HOT WATER then you EVER IMAGINED EXISTED! the DUCK -------------------------------------- When THEY want to BELIEVE,need to believe, and MUST BELIEVE to EXIST -- then TRUTH becomes the abnormal, the UNTHINKABLE, a black DARKNESS they must NEVER wander in to, because IT is the place NO ONE ever comes back from! IGNORENCE LOST is like a SPECIAL FRIEND that always made you HAPPY! Once it is GONE, every thing CHANGES and things are a LOT LESS FUN! the DUCK |

Numismatics is a great pursuit, with enough elements to it to give it a lot of appeal, including history, art, esthetics, and profit potential. But I think you're correct about the grading scam. Grading has always been the biggest problem associated with numismatics. It was always a problem what with people intentionally misrepresenting the value of their pieces through misgrading, as well as plain old honest disagreement about the true condition of a piece. The MS grading system combined with the certification of coins was supposed to remedy these problems, but it really has evolved into a bit of a scam, what with recertifying, and the undue worth assigned to modern coins. Prices of more modern coins is totally unreasonable, considering the high mintage figures. This problem is well recognized in the numismatic community and others can describe it all in much better detail than I can. I can understand high prices for rare old pieces, but the prices of this new stuff just make no sense at all. I felt back in the 1960's when the big prices came along that the "hobby" was never going to be the same. When the big money gets involved things are never the same. |
Re: GIM...Islands In The Stream ?
Hmm. River rat.
I have a common date Walker that has never been graded. I think it is an honest MS66 but if it graded MS69, I'd be in some big money! I might consider sending it in. I might be able to buy some Gold that was actually worth something! Peace TLM |

But there is an up side to the fun part... Just imagine all the J6Ps running around like wild animals trying to buy the last Twinkie with a wheelbarrow full of FRNs while The Rat and The Duck kick back and polish our barbaric stash of gold and silver. Somehow that just makes the loss of ignorance worth the price.   |
Re: GIM...Islands In The Stream ?
QWAK,Mr.Rat,Some how I just don't see my self taking any JOY out of what we both know is virtualy inevitable,SURVIVING -- yes of corse, I expect to and plan on it BUT even with all the preperations and pre positioning, it WILL impact and life will get MORE DIFICULT in many ways. It will also be very sobering to see the suffering and know I can't do much to help or stop it.
Empathy is NOT a WEAKNESS it is both HOW and WHY mankind has SURVIVED ----- unfortunately the farther we get away from the basics of SURVIVING (because the SYSTEM acts as a buffer) the farther away from being "ONE with ALL" we also get! Strange aint it, the MORE we GOT the LESS we percieve the NEED for OTHERS,the NEED to SHARE and to GIVE and RECIEVE has been reduced to a CREDIT CARD number on the inter net and the UPS MAN delivering boxes! After killing off most of the WILD things all that is left to PRAY on --- is OTHER PEOPLE! How SAD! the DUCK |
